Coxeter, Henrey Dudeney or Martin Gardner of the U.S. would have enjoyed having one: at first glance, GooglyCube™ looks like the classic 3×3 puzzle cube by Hungarian designer, Ernő Rubik. It is stickerless, magnetic and fast — a true speed cube with an all-black body. But each of its corner and edge pieces carries a number, shown as domino-style spots, and that changes everything.
There are two ways to win. You can solve it by colour, like the classic cube (SAME COLOR). Or you can ignore the colours and solve it by number (SAME SUM), arranging the pieces so the numbers on every face add up to the same magic total.
These sums are not arbitrary, they come from the cube's own geometry. On every face the four corner numbers add up to 18, the four edge numbers add up to 26, and together they make 44.
When the SAME SUM puzzle is fully solved, dots add up to the same magic sums on all six faces at once. But corners and edges can also be played independently, on their own, with or without orientation. Orientation is determined by both the spatial effect of the domino numbers and the logos on centre pieces.
